QCMA is partnering with Quincy Public Schools for both String Fest and Wind Fest. Musicians from ATLYS will hold workshops for area students during their visit to Quincy. They will perform for the public on September 20th at St. John’s Anglican Church. ATLYS is a classically trained, crossover string quartet lauded for their passionate performances and signature sound. Orquesta Alto Maiz

Orquesta Alto Maiz is a popular Latin-jazz-dance band is one of the hottest bands in the Midwest. The group plays a wide range of Latin musical styles including merengue, samba, cha-cha-cha, salsa, calypso, and boleros. Audience participation (dancing and singing) is enthusiastically encouraged! Take 6

Quincy Jones says the members of Take 6 are the “baddest vocal cats on the planet!” The multiple Grammy award winning group pays tribute to both the music and the artists that made them famous. Take 6 crosses most musical genres, from Jazz to Pop to R&B to doo wop and Blues. Take 6 has been inducted into The Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Take 6 has been in the recording studio to work on their first-ever treatment of a set of songs from such composers as Gershwin, Ellington, Holiday, Berlin, Brubeck and more! Identifying songs that have transcended genre and become those termed timeless, classic, standard, gives the group the creative opportunity to bring their brand of “classic and timeless” to this material. As Quincy Jones said of Take 6 “thy are the baddest vocal cats on the planet,” this collection pairs them with some of the “baddest songs on the planet!”
Wild Prairie Winds

Another QCMA-QPS collaboration will occur in May with Wind Fest. The mission of Wild Prairie Winds is to promote the performance, education, and accessibility of chamber music through diverse programming and creative concert settings. The group is devoted to small communities through disaster relief, diversity inclusion and awareness and environmental initiatives. Five innovative musicians founded Wild Prairie Winds in 2017 at the University of Iowa. They created online educational content in the fall of 2020 and shared it with school directors across the state.
